Three tips that will save your evening
- Call in advance. Even if a room shows as free on a booking site, contact the reception directly: on days of long queues rooms go fast, and a live confirmation is more reliable.
- Ask about a transfer. Some hotels pick guests up at the checkpoint or can recommend local drivers. This is especially handy if you need to meet a car on the Estonian side in the morning.
- Check whether you are allowed into Ivangorod. The town is a border zone. With a Russian passport, residents of Ivangorod, the Kingisepp district and several other districts of the region enter without a pass; everyone else needs an FSB pass via Gosuslugi. It takes up to 15 working days to issue — it has to be done before the trip, on the spot it is too late.
If the queue has not moved for days
Narva is not the only way into Estonia. The Kunichina Gora — Koidula crossing near Pskov works the same hours, but its queues are usually different. We drive from Ivangorod to Kunichina Gora for ₽25,000 per car, and after control we meet you at Koidula and drive you to Narva or Tallinn.

The crossing closes at 19:00 and opens at 7:00; nobody gets through at night. Stay overnight in Ivangorod — the nearest hotels are 1–2 km from the crossing — and return to the queue for opening. If Ivangorod is full, the nearest backup is Kingisepp, about 25 minutes by car.
How much does a night in Ivangorod cost?
