Luhamaa is thirty kilometres further than Koidula, but the difference does not justify a separate fare — both trips from Tartu are €80. From Tallinn the difference is real and so are the prices: €130 to Narva against €160 to Luhamaa.

The crossing sits on the Riga — Pskov road, with the Russian checkpoint Shumilkino opposite. If Pechory is where you are going, Koidula is closer.

Võru is the last town on the way: if you need food or water, this is the last chance. After it, about thirty kilometres to the crossing with hardly a house.

Going out we drop you right at the checkpoint and you clear the border yourself. Coming back we wait at the exit: there are no stops and no taxis around the crossing.

Above all on the way back. Clearing the checkpoint at Luhamaa you are standing on a highway: a taxi is hard to call out here and there are no buses. A car that is already waiting removes the problem entirely.

2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid: four passenger seats, climate control, two large suitcases in the boot. The road beyond Võru is empty, so in winter it is winter tyres only.
