Transfer Tallinn — Koidula

Koidula is a road checkpoint in south-east Estonia, opposite Kunichina Gora on the Russian side. From Tallinn it is 270 kilometres and about three hours through Tartu. We collect you from an address, the airport or the port and bring you to the gates themselves.

What the price covers

  • The fare is fixed before departure: traffic and night trips do not change it
  • Pickup at the airport and cruise port — the driver waits with a name board
  • If your flight is delayed we wait as long as needed, at no extra cost
  • A child seat on request, and no surcharge for luggage
  • Pay in cash, by card or by bank transfer; no prepayment required

In short. The Tallinn to Koidula transfer costs €160 for the whole car — up to four passengers with luggage. The drive takes about 3 hours 5 minutes, 270 km through Tartu.

Unlike pedestrian-only Narva, Koidula is a road crossing, but passport control takes place inside the checkpoint buildings, and our car does not cross: we drive you to the checkpoint and you continue on your own. For private cars the exit queue is booked in the GoSwift system and the checkpoint works during the day only. Hours and rules change — check them before you travel.

Already in Tartu? The road from there is half as long and cheaper — €80 instead of €160.

Price

What €160 covers

We charge for the car, not for the person: however many of you travel, you pay once. Neither a night departure nor traffic on the way out of Tallinn changes the fare.

Why Koidula costs more than Narva

The road is sixty kilometres longer and takes almost an hour more — hence €160 against €130 to Narva. In return you cross by car rather than on foot, which with suitcases is a different experience altogether.

How the trip works

Three hours to the south-eastern border

  1. 01

    We agree the departure time

Send the date and the hour you need to be at the border. The crossing works in daytime only, so we count the departure from Tallinn backwards from that, leaving room for the drive and for the control.

  2. 02

    Pickup in Tallinn

From a flat, a hotel, the airport or the cruise port. We load the luggage ourselves, charge nothing for bags and bring a child seat on request.

  3. 03

    The road through Tartu

First the Tallinn — Tartu highway, then towards Võru and Setomaa. The way is longer than to Narva, so we stop halfway for coffee and a stretch — that time is already allowed for.

  4. 04

    Drop-off at the checkpoint

We bring you to the Koidula gates. You clear the control yourself; if you need a car waiting on the Russian side, say so in advance and we will help line it up.

Comparison

Taxi to Koidula, the Ecolines coach or a transfer

Koidula has a quirk of its own: almost no scheduled transport goes to the checkpoint itself. The coach passes by on its way to Pskov, and the train drops you two kilometres from the border — the rest is on foot with your bags.

WayPriceTimeWhat matters
EstoniaTransfer private car€160 per car≈ 3 h 5 mindoor to the gates of the crossing, departure at the hour that suits you

When a transfer earns its keep. If the queue is already booked for a specific hour, a car adapts to it and a coach or train does not. And the last stretch through Põlva and Setomaa runs on local roads where scheduled transport simply does not go.

The car

What you travel in

2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid: four passenger seats, climate control, a boot for two large suitcases and hand luggage. Koidula is nearly an hour further than Narva, so winter tyres in winter and working air conditioning in summer are not a formality here.

Kirill is at the wheel and he answers WhatsApp and Telegram himself: you deal with the driver directly, without a dispatcher. He speaks Russian and gets by in English. A stop or a drop-off in Tartu is possible on the way — mention it in advance.

What to know about Koidula

The crossing works in daytime only
Koidula is open from 7:00 to 19:00 and closes completely for the night. Plan to arrive with time to spare: a queue builds up at the barrier towards the evening and the last cars may not make it through.
The queue is booked in advance
Leaving Estonia by car means booking a slot in the GoSwift system — eestipiir.ee. At weekends there is almost nothing left, so take the time early. We cannot make the booking for you.
On foot or by car
Koidula is a road crossing, and that is its main difference from Narva. If you plan to walk across, check the procedure beforehand: the rules here have changed more than once and differ between crossings.

The operator

Who runs the service

Koidula is 270 kilometres away and needs a booked exit slot — a journey where you depend on the driver and the car for several hours. So the numbers below are worth checking, and not only ours: carrying passengers for payment is a licensed activity in Estonia, the numbers are public, and an operator who cannot produce them is working outside the law, with no insurance covering your trip.

  • Legal entity

    Name: Barabara OÜ

    Registry code: 17146802

Entered in the Estonian Commercial Register; the code can be checked at ariregister.rik.ee.

  • Passenger transport licence

    Number: TVL005942

Issued to the company by the Estonian Transport Administration (Transpordiamet).

  • The driver

    Service card: TK23034

The same person every time, speaking English and Russian. The car is a 2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid with four passenger seats.
