Taxi and transfer Tallinn — Saint Petersburg

No taxi drives from Tallinn to Saint Petersburg in one car — and it is not the carriers' fault. The Friendship Bridge at Narva is closed to cars: the border here is crossed on foot only. So the journey has three parts — to Narva, on foot into Ivangorod, and on to Petersburg. We cover all of it for €200 in one booking: a car takes you to the checkpoint, you go through control, and a second car waits on the Russian side.

What the price covers

  • The fare is fixed before departure: traffic and night trips do not change it
  • Pickup at the airport and cruise port — the driver waits with a name board
  • If your flight is delayed we wait as long as needed, at no extra cost
  • A child seat on request, and no surcharge for luggage
  • Pay in cash, by card or by bank transfer; no prepayment required

The Narva bridge is closed to cars

The Narva-1 checkpoint takes pedestrians only and is open from 7:00 to 19:00. Cars are not let through — not your own, not a taxi, not a transfer. Plan to reach the crossing with time in hand: the queue is unpredictable and after 19:00 the crossing shuts until morning. The hours have changed several times in the past two years — check politsei.ee before you travel.

In short. The through transfer from Tallinn to Petersburg is €200 for the whole trip: both cars and the walk between them, priced per car rather than per passenger. Three legs. To Narva — 210 km, about 2 h 30 min. The border — on foot through the covered walkway on the bridge, from half an hour to several hours depending on the queue. Ivangorod to Petersburg — another 150 km, about 2 h 30 min.

Other ways. The Lux Express coach to Narva costs from €9 and takes about three hours; the Elron train to Narva station about 2 h 50 min for €13–23. Both drop you in town, about two kilometres short of the checkpoint.

On a through ticket only the international coaches run: Baltic Shuttle goes Tallinn — Narva — Ivangorod — Petersburg from €35, Anniston via Pskov from €42. Passengers still cross on foot, but the coach waits for them on the other side for up to two hours.

The choice is simple. Travelling light with time to spare — the coach is cheapest. With suitcases, a child or an evening flight into Tallinn — price the whole journey: two kilometres from the station to the checkpoint have to be walked with your bags.

Transfer

Tallinn — Saint Petersburg: €200 all the way

There are two cars because one cannot do the whole trip: the Estonian car does not cross the border. But it is one booking and one price, all in euros — no roubles and no exchange rate at the border. The separate legs below are for those who need only part of the way.

How the trip works

The journey step by step

  1. 01

    Pickup in Tallinn

From a flat, a hotel, the cruise port or the airport — we meet you in arrivals with a name board. If the flight is late we wait at no charge: we count the departure backwards from the 19:00 closing of the crossing, and the margin is already built in.

  2. 02

    210 kilometres to Narva

The highway through Rakvere and Jõhvi, about two and a half hours. We stop at the Narva-1 checkpoint where the pedestrian crossing begins — not at the station two kilometres away.

  3. 03

    You cross the border yourself

On foot through the covered walkway over the bridge into Ivangorod. From half an hour to several hours, depending on the queue. How long you stood there does not change the price.

  4. 04

The second car at the exit in Ivangorod

It waits at the exit from the checkpoint and drives you to Petersburg: about 150 km and two and a half hours. If you booked the through trip for €200, this leg is already included. People looking for a car with suitcases at the Ivangorod crossing usually get an unpleasant surprise with the price — arrange it in advance.

Comparison

Three ways to reach the border

An honest comparison: the coach and the train have real advantages, and if they fit your trip, take them. Data as of September 2026 from the carriers — timetables and fares on this route change often.

Getting from Tallinn to the Narva border and on to Saint Petersburg
OptionTo NarvaWhere it drops youPriceWhat to consider
Lux Express coach≈ 3 hNarva bus station, ≈ 2 km to the crossingfrom €9cheapest; fixed timetable, you carry your luggage
Baltic Shuttle coach≈ 2 h 45 minthrough ticket to Petersburgfrom €35one purchase for the whole trip; the coach waits up to two hours after the crossing
Anniston coachdepends on the queuePskov and Petersburgfrom €42goes via Pskov, a longer road
Elron train≈ 2 h 50 minNarva station, ≈ 2 km to the crossing€13–23faster than the coach and no traffic; the same two kilometres on foot
Through transfer≈ 2 h 30 minto Petersburg, change of car at the border€200 for both carsone booking and one currency for the whole trip; for four it beats four tickets

What to read first. Not the price but the «where it drops you» column. Two kilometres from Narva station to the checkpoint is half an hour with a backpack and a very different story with two suitcases — with a walk across the border and a queue still ahead. The Baltic Shuttle through ticket solves the second half, but you still travel to Narva on a timetable.

The car

What you travel to the border in

2020 Toyota Corolla Hybrid: four passenger seats, climate control and a boot for two large suitcases plus hand luggage. A hybrid is quieter than an ordinary petrol saloon at town speeds — noticeable leaving Tallinn and approaching Narva.

It is the driver's own car, not a rotating fleet vehicle. Winter tyres in winter, working air conditioning in summer: two hundred and ten kilometres is a long road, and it ends not at a hotel but in a border queue — you do not want to arrive exhausted.

Kirill is at the wheel and he answers WhatsApp and Telegram. You arrange things directly with the person who drives you. He speaks Russian and English.

The border crossing

What to know about Narva

On foot only, 7:00 to 19:00
Narva-1 is a pedestrian checkpoint. Cars do not go through; if you need to cross by car, that means Koidula or Luhamaa, with a different road and price. The crossing is closed at night.
The queue is unpredictable
From half an hour to several hours. In summer and on holidays it eats the whole margin — arrive with time to spare, not just before 19:00. If you miss it, Narva has places to stay: hotels are listed in the general border guide.
Euro cash cannot be taken into Russia
There is a ban on taking euro banknotes into Russia, with an exception for personal needs; the wording is not entirely clear and it is interpreted at the border. Rely on a Russian bank card or rouble cash. Check the current rules before you travel: they change.
The way back
From Ivangorod to Tallinn it is the same in reverse. We collect you at the exit from the Narva checkpoint: Narva — Tallinn, €130, drop-off at the airport terminal or an address. Arrange it in advance — catching a car at the crossing is close to impossible.

FAQ

Common questions about the road to Petersburg

How much is a taxi from Tallinn to Saint Petersburg?
€200 per car for the whole trip — up to four passengers with luggage. That is two cars and a walk across the border at Narva between them, but one booking and one price, in euros. An ordinary taxi cannot drive Tallinn — Petersburg in one car: the Narva bridge is closed to cars.
Can I travel the same way from Petersburg to Tallinn?
Yes, at the same price — €200 for the whole trip. A car collects you in Petersburg, you cross the border on foot in Ivangorod, and our car waits at the exit from the Narva checkpoint to take you to Tallinn. Details on the Saint Petersburg — Tallinn page.
How long does the walk across the border at Narva take?
From half an hour to several hours — that is the honest range, and it cannot be narrowed. It depends on the queue: on a weekday morning it is quick, in summer and on holidays it stretches for hours. The crossing itself is a covered gallery on the bridge, a few minutes' walk; the rest is Estonian and Russian control. Arrive with time to spare: it closes at 19:00 and latecomers are not let through.
What documents do I need to enter Russia from Estonia?
Russian citizens — a valid international passport. Foreign citizens — a passport and a Russian visa, including an electronic one if the crossing accepts it: not every checkpoint does. Children need their own document, and travelling with one parent you may be asked for the other's consent. The rules change often and we are not a border authority — check official sources before you travel. We drive you to the checkpoint but cannot clear control for you.
Is an airport pickup with a name board included?
Yes, at no extra cost. We meet you in arrivals with a name board and help with the suitcases. Flight waiting is not charged: if the plane is late, we wait — just send the flight number in advance. We also collect from the cruise port, the station, a hotel or any address in Tallinn.
Can I pay by card?
Yes. You pay in cash to the driver, by card or by bank transfer, in euros. No prepayment: the ride first, then the settlement. We confirm the price by message before departure so you have it in writing. The through trip to Petersburg is priced entirely in euros — €200 for both cars, no roubles needed on the Russian side.
